Soil organic matter or organic carbon is one of
the most important components for maintaining or improving soil
fertility and farm productivity. Soil organic matter plays a major
role in improving the efficiency of water use, fertiliser use and
soil structures, which all ultimately leads to healthier plant
growth and greater profitability.
Most Australian soils contain less than 1%
organic matter content, with very few more than 2 to 3%. Soils with
very low organic matter content usually have poor water holding and
nutrient retention abilities, and very poor physical
structures.
One of the most valuable sources of organic
matter and carbon is Organic Humate, a natural product derived from
the decomposition of ancient plant matter.
